About Me
I’m Doug Brill, a travel advisor, photographer, and lifelong traveler.
For me, travel has never been about simply checking places off a list. It is about the experiences that stay with you: the people you meet, the food you try, the customs you learn, the unexpected moments, and the stories you bring home.
Photography has always been part of how I experience the world. It encourages me to slow down, pay attention, and look beyond the obvious. I believe some of the best travel experiences happen on the way to the famous sight—the market you wander through, the café you stop at, the conversation you did not expect, or the neighborhood you discover by taking the longer route. Sometimes, the journey to a place becomes more memorable than the place itself.
That same curiosity shapes the way I help my clients plan their travels.
As a travel advisor, I help people plan cruises, guided tours, rail journeys, independent travel, and curated luxury experiences. Whether you already know exactly where you want to go or are just beginning to think about traveling, I can help turn an idea into a thoughtfully planned trip.
I have helped clients travel through the Norwegian fjords and above the Arctic Circle, see penguins in Antarctica, ride scenic trains through Switzerland, experience Alaska’s glaciers and Denali, cruise the rivers and seas of Europe, and explore destinations throughout Japan, Southeast Asia, Europe, New Zealand, and beyond.
I also believe that good travel planning is about more than reservations. I help my clients understand local customs, learn practical travel basics, and feel confident enough to get out and truly experience the places they visit.
I especially enjoy helping travelers discover the moments that make a destination memorable: jazz in Bangkok, Angkor Wat in Cambodia, Singapore’s hawker markets, neighborhood izakayas in Japan, matcha in Uji, cava in Barcelona, or a quiet view that becomes the photograph you remember for years.
My Travel Experience
My own travel experience spans decades and includes independent travel, family travel, road trips, rail journeys, and extended travel through Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and North America.
I have lived abroad and traveled through places including Japan, Thailand, Cambodia, Singapore, Nepal, Israel, Mexico, Canada, and much of Europe. One of my most memorable experiences was trekking around Annapurna in Nepal in 1987 without a guide or porter, relying on a topographic map and the people we met along the way.
Those experiences taught me that good planning matters, but so do curiosity, flexibility, and the confidence to step beyond what is familiar. They now shape the way I help my clients travel.
The world is astonishing. Let me help you see it.
